LAST DAY IN WALES
The next day was bright and sunny, so our friends set off to make the most of their last day in Wales.
An elegant residence they had expected to be able to explore was, sadly, not open for inspection. Some were disappointed, but soon thought of other ways to spend their time.
The swimming pool was a popular attraction, especially on such a sunny day. It was a MUCH better prospect than a dip in the sea!
Hurley had also been attracted to the swimming pool, but unfortunately, it had disastrous results for him. SOMEONE STOLE HIS CAMERAwhile he was enjoying a dip!
He immediately summoned two of the detectives, Budley and Buddy, and told them the tragic story.
They took details, and also noted who was in the vicinity at the time of the crime.
Even though Hurley was offered the use of a passenger's camera in the meantime, it was not the same as his expensive, and treasured model. He felt bereft without his faithful companion.
His friends tried in vain to cheer him up, while Buddy and Budley set about their detecting. They had to interview a few people who were there at the time. Someone may have seen who was near Hurley's belongings while he was in the pool. There may even have been witnesses to the crime!
Cody and MacKenzie Jane were strolling happily along a rustic path when suddenly, someone jumped out at them from behind the trees. It was Boomer! And what was he doing this time?
Cody recognized Boomer's new 'toy' as being very like Hurley's missing camera, and MacKenzie demanded that he return it IMMEDIATELY!
Boomer's face fell, and he shuffled his feet awkwardly in the rough pebbles of the path.
"Aw, Gee," he said with a whimper. "I only BORROWED it for a JOKE, and I was going to give it back after I'd taken a few pictures, JUST FOR FUN!"
"But you should have asked Hurley FIRST!" was MacKenzie's firm response.
By this time Kelly and Kelsie D had joined them.
Boomer hung his head and looked so miserable that they all felt rather sorry. Cody went over and said gently, "C'mon Boomer. Let's go and find Hurley."
So they turned back along the path with a more cheerful Boomer running happily at their side.
They met up with Hurley, Buddy and Budley a little further on. Hurley was so relieved to know that his precious camera hadn't been stolen, and was safe and sound, that he didn't even get angry with the remorseful Boomer.
At least, Boomer had learned an important lesson from this. Always ask first, and bear in mind at all times that jokes can often backfire!
This joke backfired when they arrived back at the swimming pool. Nico and Finnegan had heard about Boomer's little joke, and they decided to pay him one back.
Before he knew what was happening, the two boys had tossed him into the pool!
Fortunately, Boomer was an excellent swimmer, and he was soon approaching the edge of the pool, very wet, but smiling. Being his usual happy-go-lucky self, he took it all in good spirit.
Hurley had his own 'sweet revenge'. He scored one of the best action pictures he'd taken on this Cruise!
Some took the beach path, while others preferred a more rustic route. But there was at least one who just wanted to take a nap!
Of course, the children were more interested in fun and food!
Winston and Shadow were waiting at the Lily Pond for Miss Hannah. To their disappointment, she did not turn up, and Shadow reminded Winston that Actresses tended to be unreliable when it came to keeping appointments!
Teddy followed advice, and finally plucked up courage to invite Kelsie D out on a date. Lexi was thinking of home, and Kelly, with Havisham, was feeling the stress of the day's activities.
The sun began to set on their last day in Wales. Everyone had returned to the hotel to rest before dinner. Everyone, that is, except two.
Rudee sat on a bench seat in a romantic little spot near the beach path. Beside him was Miss Hannah.
They watched the sun set as the last rays of orange and yellow left the sky, and silver stars began to appear.
It was as if they were watching a sunset for the very first time. But then, it was the first time they had watched a sunset together. They both hoped there would be many more to share in the future.
The following morning was one of mixed feelings. There was great joy and anticipation as they boarded the coach to go to the airport, where they would connect with a jet leaving for Madrid, Spain.
There was also sadness to be leaving Wales, and the UK. The members of the Welsh Chorale felt their hearts rise up into their throats as a local Welsh Male Voice Choir farewelled them at the airport with the emotional song, WE'LL KEEP A WELCOME.
So, as the heartfelt words of farewell, and the moving music of Wales were drowned from their hearing by jet engines, they looked out of the windows for the last time at that lovely 'Land Of Song' - WALES!
